Your Interview
When we receive your completed supplemental application, we will review your credentials in considering whether to interview you. All interview offers are made via e-mail (to your preferred email address listed in your AMCAS application), and you will not be admitted to the school without an interview.
We receive over 8,000 applications for 150 spots in each class. Obviously, we cannot interview everyone; only those candidates we believe best match our program are extended an invitation to interview.
After your interview, the Admissions Committee will notify you by mail whether you have been accepted, not accepted, or placed on the wait-list for admission starting February 16, 2024.
Your Interview Day
The UPSOM begins extending invitations to interview by late July and will continue extending invitations until early December.
The interview season begins August 28, 2023 and concludes January 12, 2024. Interviews are conducted remotely and are offered on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. The total time commitment will be approximately five (5) hours with structured breaks between events beginning at 10:00 AM EST for the MD program. The events consist of a greeting & explanation of the process, a faculty interview, a current medical student interview, a team exercise, and a closing session. Once invited to interview, applicants applying for the MD program are given the opportunity to select the available interview day that is most convenient for their schedule.
The interview day schedule is below (all times are EASTERN STANDARD TIME) (all links to access the following sessions will be available after 9:00 AM EST in the AMPUP portal on your interview day):
- 10:00 AM - 10:30 AM (EST): Welcome Session
- 10:45 AM - 11:30 AM (EST): Faculty Interview (one on one with a UPSOM faculty member)
- 12:15 PM - 12:55 PM (EST): Student Interview (one on one with a UPSOM current medical student)
- 1:15 PM - 1:55 PM (EST): Team Exercise
- 2:00 PM - 2:10 PM (EST): Closing Session
Applicants selected to interview for the Medical Scientist Training Program will be emailed separately about interview date, the process of interviewing and the interview format.
We encourage applicants invited to interview with us to review our Best Practices for Virtual Interviews. To minimize delays on your interview day due to technical issues, we ask applicants to join their sessions five minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
Optional Information Sessions
There will be optional information sessions offered throughout the interview season to learn more about the curriculum, financial aid, research opportunities, the Physician Scientist Training Program, student support & diversity. In addition, there will be weekly student chats that will give applicants the opportunity to talk directly with our medical students.
Information sessions are informal, optional, and reserved for applicants invited to interview. Applicants can schedule these sessions at any time during the interview season. Capacity is limited on some sessions; however, additional session dates may be added during the interview season.
