Ahmed Jorge, Class of 2020
University of Florida, Aerospace Engineering major
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO ATTEND PITT MEDICINE:
Brain Computer Interface Research and medium-sized city (not too big, not too small, college-ambiance but big city feel).
DESCRIBE YOUR LIFE AS A MEDICAL STUDENT AT PITT MED:
In between attending classes, being in the lab and spending time with friends outdoors. Time flies.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE PITT MEDICINE COMMUNITY:
Outgoing and research oriented.
WHAT STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS ARE YOU INVOLVED IN:
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO WITH YOUR SPARE TIME:
Rock Climbing, water sports, skiing
DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR STUDENTS APPLYING TO PITT MEDICINE:
Don't be discouraged when applying and interviewing here, as they will be people from all walks of life. I am always impressed by the gamut of backgrounds in my class, from orchestra and rock band players, to sculptors and painters, to Olympic athletes and PhDs! I found it fortunate to share class time and discussion sessions with people with a different point of view.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT BEING IN THE CITY OF PITTSBURGH:
Restaurant scene (and I am not talking about Primanti's, check out Noodlehead, Cafe33 and everyday noodles, if you can get a table!) and closeness to nature (Seven Springs offers affordable skiing and off-road bike riding, only one hour away).
WHAT DID YOU (OR ARE YOU PLANNING TO) DO DURING THE SUMMER AFTER YOUR FIRST YEAR OF MEDICAL SCHOOL:
Basic Research in Spinal Cord Injury
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COURSE AT PITT MEDICINE:
Everyone's favorite: anatomy.
ANY FINAL ADVICE FOR ACCEPTED STUDENTS:
Enjoy your time here, it surely flies!
