Seeking Both Federal and Institutional Aid

1. Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

You must complete a FAFSA or renewal FAFSA to be considered for financial aid. Remember to include the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (FAFSA Code: E00516) so that we can receive your FAFSA results. You are required to include your spouse’s information if applicable. Parental information must also be provided if you wish to be considered for need-based resources from the School of Medicine.

Visit studentaid.gov to complete the application.

2. College Board (CSS Profile)

If you wish to be considered for institutional need-based resources from the School of Medicine, you must complete the College Board CSS Profile in addition to the FAFSA. This application must include parental information along with your income and assets. If you are married, you must include your spouse’s income and asset information. If you parents are divorced or separated, each parent must submit information on the College Board CSS Profile. In cases where a divorced parent has remarried, you have the option of using parent and stepparent. To ensure privacy, the information is password protected.

Visit https://www.collegeboard.org/ to complete the application.

3. Verification of Income Information

All first-time applicants must supply documentation of student’s income (and spouse’s income, if applicable) and if applying for need-based resources must also supply documentation of parental income as follows:

  • Signed Student (and Spouse) 2020 Federal Income Tax Return(s) or a Tax Non-Filer Form

  • Sibling/Spouse Enrollment Verification Form
  • Note: Federal Verification of other information may be required. Our office will notify you if any additional information is needed.

Seeking Federal Aid Only

1. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

You must complete a FAFSA or renewal FAFSA to be considered for any type of financial aid. Remember to include the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (FAFSA Code: E00516) so that we can receive your FAFSA results. You are required to include your spouse’s information if married. Parental information is not required if you are not seeking consideration for institutional need-based resources from the School of Medicine.

Visit studentaid.gov to complete the application.

2. Verification of Income Information

In rare instances, verification of student information may be required by Federal Student Aid. Our office will notify you if additional information is needed.

** Please note: Funding for need-based assistance cannot be guaranteed to students who apply after the deadline. Students whose application is incomplete or received after the deadline will experience a delay in receiving their financial aid award letters AND a delay in receiving their refunds. Please keep in mind, a tax extension from the Internal Revenue Service is not an extension from the school as far as meeting financial aid deadlines.
