SECOND LOOK FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How long is the Second Look experience?
Our Second Look Program takes place over 2 days: Thursday, April 25 and Friday, April 26. Newly admitted students can attend both days or just one, as their time commitments allow.
Where will Second Look visit take place?
The majority of Second Look Program will take place in various locations on the University of Pittsburgh Oakland campus. Events are planned within Scaife Hall, the Biomedical Science Tower (BST), the Winter Institute for Simulation, Education, and Research (WISER), and units within UPMC Healthcare facilities. Social activities are also planned for various locations on the Oakland campus and nearby neighborhoods.
How do I find more information about the Discovery Sessions and how do I sign up?
The Second Look Coordinators have planned various medical school activities for you to participate in during your visit. The registration process will provide a list of the Discovery Sessions available along with a brief description (most will be led by medical school faculty). Each student will be asked to submit their top 3 choices that they wish to participate. The Second Look Coordinators will do their best to accommodate each request but these are not guaranteed and will be on a first come first serve basis. When you check in on Friday morning, your packet will contain an itinerary with which Discovery Sessions you have been assigned.
How do I get there?
Check in will take place in Scaife Hall, located at 3550 Terrace Street (across the street from the Peterson Events Center). Detailed instructions are available on our travel page at this link: https://www.medadmissions.pitt.edu/admissions/how-apply/traveling-univer....
How will I get to the various activities planned?
Most of the activities will be in walking distance on the Oakland campus. Students may have to utilize ride sharing programs (Lyft, Uber, taxi, bus, car pooling, etc.) to attend any of the nightly social activities.
What should I wear?
Dress for all day activities of the Second Look Program is business casual. The night out social events are casual. Please be sure to wear comfortable shoes for walking.
Where should I stay?
The Second Look Coordinators will be offering student hosting as part of the visit. If you do not wish to stay with a current medical student, the School of Medicine has arranged for discounted rates at hotels in the Oakland campus area. Please review our travel page for directions and lodging information. The Hosting Coordinator will be providing information about your student host after you submit your registration. **Please be aware that Pitt's Commencement Ceremonies will be held on Thursday April 25, 2019 (Graduate Ceremony starting at 6:30 PM at the Peterson Events Center) and Sunday April 28, 2019 (Undergraduate Ceremony starting at 1:00 PM at the Peterson Events Center).
Will my significant other or family members be allowed to attend?
While we encourage significant others and family members to visit and learn more about the City of Pittsburgh, the Second Look visit is designed for the newly admitted student to get an understanding of the medical school experience. Additional visitors will NOT be hosted, allowed to attend the Thursday dinner reception, or attend any of the day activities on Friday. The nightly social activities will be open to attend if so desired.

Is there anything mandatory?
